All of us know that an average human being has a set of 36 teeth. However, we are not born with all these teeth. Most of us would have developed

32 teeth by the time we reach the age of seventeen. Wisdom teeth are the two pairs of teeth that grow at the back of the mouth, and are generally visible by the age of twenty-one. This set of teeth is referred to as 'wisdom teeth' because of the age old belief that the best years of gaining wisdom is the period between 17 - 21 years.

Many people do not experience any symptoms of wisdom teeth, just because their teeth are in order. Unfortunately, there are a few who experience a lot of pain and inconvenience at the time of growth of their wisdom teeth. Some instances are quite harmless, and can be passed over without a lot of discomfort. Alternative warm and mild compresses are generally helpful in cases of mild discomfort. These phases tend to be quite far and out, and do not last for more than two to three days. These are the normal symptoms, we can say.

Extraction Of Wisdom Teeth

However, there are some other symptoms of wisdom teeth, which point towards medical intervention. Sometimes, the symptoms are very severe and can lead to no other option other than removal of the offending wisdom tooth. Here is the list of those symptoms. However, always contact and take the advice of your dentist before undertaking any surgery or taking any over the counter medicines. Your dentist will be able to ensure whether you need you tooth removed or not. In addition, never try to remove the tooth on your own, or have it done by an amateur, as it can lead to many gum infections for you, that will be even more horrendous than having the wisdom tooth removed.

One of the most obvious symptoms of wisdom teeth is that it feels as if the tooth is pushing your gums, and trying to make a way out of it. When this happens, it can lead to a nasty gum infection, which can affect your whole mouth if you are not careful enough. Some other symptoms are swelling of the cheeks, tooth decay, bleeding of the gums, and excessive pain and irritation experiences when the wisdom tooth rubs against the side of the mouth or the teeth. The feeling resembles severe chafing and is very uncomfortable. Some people even find talking and eating difficult. Be sure to contact your dentist if anything like this happens, he will conduct an x ray and check whether you need extraction or not.

In the end, it can be concluded that having a wisdom tooth is generally not such a bad experience, but if one has difficulty with the wisdom tooth then he/she should always follow the advice of the dentist and follow the given instructions. The dentist would be perfectly capable to suggest the best line of action for you.
